In the film, Edmond Murray (McAvoy) searches for answers deep in the Highlands after receiving a frantic call from his ex-wife that their seven-year-old son went missing from a campsite.

We’re cramming ourselves into lycra and polishing our helmets on this episode of The Culture Swally as we look at the 2006 film, The Flying Scotsman. Directed by Douglas Mackinnon, the film is based on the life and career of Scottish amateur cyclist Graeme Obree, covering the period that saw him take, lose, and then retake the world one-hour distance record. Starring Johnny Lee Miller, Laura Fraser, Billy Boyd, and Brian Cox.
In the news we have a laugh with some cows in Cowdenbeath, get a bit confused when we visit a very famous art gallery in Glasgow, ponder what to have for lunch after our plans get scuppered, meet a woman who was ghosted after getting matching tattoo’s and we attend the Cosmo Olympics.

The end of the world as we know it? Nah, lets have a dance to the Fine Young Cannibals as we look at the 2008 film, from director Neil Marshall, Doomsday.
When a lethal virus spreads throughout Scotland, infecting millions and killing hundreds of thousands. To contain the threat, acting authorities brutally quarantine the country as it succumbs to fear and chaos. Three decades later, the Reaper virus violently resurfaces in London. An elite group of specialists, including Eden Sinclair, is urgently dispatched into Scotland to retrieve a cure by any means necessary.
In the news we discover which lucky residents have made it into the Paisley Walk of Fame, reminisce about the old days of Triple Kirks and Exodus in Aberdeen, meet a man who has a lovely way with words with his local housing association and take a trip down memory lane with some Scottish Primary School memories.

Episode 104 - The Field of Blood (Series Two) (2013)
Thursday Jul 11, 2024
Thursday Jul 11, 2024
Back in May 2023 on episode 74 we looked at the first series of the adaptation of the Denise Mina novel The Field of Blood. So I thought it was time to look at the second and final series of the show.
Released in 2013, series two is set in 1984, two years after the events of the first series. Set against a backdrop of the miners’ strike and the changing face of 1980s journalism, Paddy Meehan now has her dream job as a news reporter working alongside George McVie. But all this changes with the arrival of new Editor-in-Chief, a no-nonsense woman in a man’s world, determined to bring the newspaper into the modern age - against editor Murray Devlin’s wishes.
In the news meet an upset American Taylor Swift fan who has evidently never been to a concert before, hear about an enterprising businessman who visit Germany, discover the smelliest city in Scotland and eat some cereal on a council zoom meeting.

Episode 103 - Tommy's Honour (2016)
Thursday Jun 27, 2024
Thursday Jun 27, 2024
We’re dusting off our plus fours on this episode of The Swally as we play a round of golf with Peter Mullan and Jack Louden in the 2016 film Tommy’s Honour. Directed by Wee Tam, Jason Connery, the film follows the career of Tom Morris and his son Tommy Morris (we still think The Two Tommies would be a better title) in an intimate, powerfully moving tale of the real-life founders of the modern game of golf.
In the news we play the guitar on a stone with mad spoon bender Uri Geller, take our parrots for a walk, hear about a name mix up that could be embarrassing when in your local Greggs and meet a man who has a Kinder Egg hidden in a very special place.

Episode 102 - Rebus - Black & Blue (2000)
Thursday Jun 13, 2024
Thursday Jun 13, 2024
With the BBC recently releasing a new series, based on the character DI John Rebus, created by prolific Scottish author, Sir Ian Rankin, I thought we would go all the way back to 2000, to look at the first attempt to transfer the character to television and look at the first ever Rebus episode called Black and Blue. DI Rebus, played by John Hannah investigates when a number of women are killed with the same modus operandi as that used by 'The Preacher', a prolific serial killer active in Edinburgh during the 1980s. But is a copycat killer at large, or has 'The Preacher' returned to finish what he started?
In the news we go back to yesteryear to look at some forgotten Scottish sweeties, we meet the fastest man ever to wear a kilt, have a stern warning for Scotland fans attending Euro 2024 in Germany and The Patron Saint of The Swally nearly gets into a wee bit of bother at the airport.

Episode 101 - Gregory's Two Girls (1999)
Thursday May 30, 2024
Thursday May 30, 2024
We’re going back to 1999 on the latest episode of The Swally, as we look at the slightly problematic sequel to the beloved Gregory’s Girl - Gregory’s Two Girls. Eighteen years later, Gregory, now a 35-year-old English teacher in his former secondary school, has fantasies about a 16-year-old student. He then gets involved with students in a plot to overthrow a businessman they suspect of trading in torture equipment.
In the news we get upset in Marks and Spencer when the bags they have on offer don’t meet our requirements, join a woman in a back garden hot-tub, meet three people who have new tattoo’s and play a round of Master Baker.

Episode 100 - Gregory's Girl - The ReSwally (1981)
Thursday May 16, 2024
Thursday May 16, 2024
It’s our 100th episode! To celebrate we are returning to one of our favourite films of all time, Gregory’s Girl. We previously covered this film in episode two of the podcast, but thought it was the perfect opportunity to have a ReSwally and visit it once again.
Directed by Bill Forsyth and starring John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn and Claire Grogan, the film tells the tale of Gregory, who is a normal teen, infatuated with a classmate who joins the school football team.
In the news we stay in a sexy Airbnb, hear about a couple having an argument on a plane, meet a couple of cows who just want to say hello and discuss XL Gullies taking over Aberdeen.
